Job Description

Under supervision, perform duties related to maintaining and cleaning the Physical Education and Athletic Facilities complying with appropriate regulations and codes.

Job Function:

Under supervision, perform duties related to maintaining and cleaning the Physical Education and Athletic Facilities complying with appropriate regulations and codes.

Minimum Education:

1.High School diploma or equivalent (GED).

Minimum Experience:

1.One year of either custodial experience or grounds experience required.
2.Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License and be insurable under the University’s auto fleet policy.
3.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies and procedures, communications, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
4.Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
5.Must possess or obtain fork lift certification within a reasonable time period as determined by Ball State University if the position requires it.
6.Must possess or obtain aerial work platform certification within a reasonable time period as determined by Ball State University if the position requires it.
7. Must be 18 years or older.

Preferred Experience:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties related to maintenance and cleaning of Physical Education and Athletic Facilities, includes the upkeep of floor fixtures, swimming balconies, courts, lavatories, offices, trash disposal, sweeping and/or shoveling sidewalks, and changing lamps and tubes in light fixtures.
  • Prepare set-ups and take down equipment as assigned.
  • Read and/or interpret sketches, drawings, specifications, plans, manuals, etc.
  • Line and mark athletic fields, floors and courts; paint and maintain bleachers and other facilities.
  • Seed, fertilize, mow, irrigate, and otherwise maintain outdoor grounds and facilities and implement proper preventative maintenance systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, minor repair, and operate all types of athletic equipment; report need for major repairs to supervisor or appropriate personnel.
  • Load and unload trucks and place supplies/equipment in appropriate areas as assigned.
  • Maintain security of rooms and buildings.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of job related chemicals and environmental concerns, utilize proper chemicals for field and facility maintenance and upkeep.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
