The Miller College of Business at Ball State University seeks an innovative and visionary leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Management.
The department offers students a unique educational experience, with a nationally recognized Entrepreneurship Center, innovative curriculum, and experiential learning that includes immersive learning, internships, and study-abroad.
As Chair of the Department of Management, you will lead a vibrant and collaborative team, advancing the department’s academic programs, operations, personnel, budget, and student-focused activities. You will also collaborate closely with our Bryan Dean of the Miller College of Business and the rest of our leadership team in advancing the College’s strategic goals.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of excellence in teaching and research, along with proven leadership experience. We seek a candidate who will mentor and support a diverse group of faculty and staff, be an advocate for the department, and build strong relationships with alumni, businesses, and the wider community. Job Function:
Serve as chairperson of the department; teach 9 credit hours during the academic year, engage in scholarly research, and service to the institution.
Minimum Education:
PhD or DBA in Management or a closely related business discipline from an accredited graduate program by date of appointment.
Minimum Experience:
Five academic years (at least 40 months) of prior experience in teaching and research.
Preferred Experience:
Visibility in the discipline, commitment to community engagement and societal impact, and a genuine interest in business as a force for good.
At least one year of administrative experience which may include, but not limited to, scheduling, recruiting and mentoring, preparation of policy and process documents, management of advisory boards, management of budgets, curriculum management, participation in accreditation-related activities, and performance assessment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the department's primary spokesperson and representative to the college, university, and external community.
- Provide direction to the department, consistent with University and College Strategic Plans. Engage in short- and long-range planning for the department, in cooperation with the faculty.
- Keep abreast of developments in the discipline and encourage excellence and innovation in scholarship and teaching.
- Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of academic programs and curriculum within the department. Guide the department's innovations in course content, curriculum, and delivery methods.
- Supervise faculty and staff in a manner that creates a positive and engaged culture. Assign faculty teaching assignments and service responsibilities. Engage in recruitment, performance evaluation, discipline, annual compensation adjustments, and training and career development of personnel.
- Act as fiscal agent for the department and allocate funds and resources in a manner designed to promote excellence.
- Ensure department compliance with HLC and AACSB accreditation standards.
- Support college initiatives, and implement university, college, and department policies.
- Teach 9 credit hours in the academic year. Conduct scholarly research and publish in quality academic and professional journals.
- Actively contribute professional service to the Department, College, and University, and engage with the academic, business and broader community.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
