Summary

The Center for Comparative Medicine provides for the care, health and well-being of all research animals used in the pursuit of scientific achievement and excellence at Baylor College of Medicine. CCM provides the highest quality veterinary and animal care and acts as a resource for the faculty on veterinary and scientific issues relating to the use of laboratory animals. Under general supervision, this position provides routine care and handling of laboratory animals in a safe and sanitary manner as well as assisting with oversight of daily operations, log completion and verifying cleanliness throughout their areas.

Job Duties

  • Assists with maintaining accurate health records.
  • Conducts daily animal health checks and assist with ensuring all daily assignments are completed and are properly documented.
  • Helps ensure the staffs daily animal health checks are completed and documented accordingly.
  • Ensures that activities are in compliance with AAALAC standards.
  • Feeds and waters animals.
  • Changes animal caging as scheduled, sanitizing rooms, equipment and hallways.
  • Verifies staff daily progression and ensures proper log completion
  • Ensures that all facility logs are properly documented.
  • Oversees cage wash daily operations and ensures proper log completion.
  • Oversees animal transfers and house incoming animals.
  • Reviews pink slips and ready to wean cage reports and addresses deficient cages following IACUC policy.
  • Performsother job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).
