Job Description

The Edith Kinney Gaylord Expository Writing Program at the University of Oklahoma is hiring a Lecturer to begin teaching in Fall 2025. Expository Writing [ou.edu/expo] is housed in an academic unit with the OU Writing Center [ou.edu/writingcenter]. The program offers thematic, interdisciplinary first-year writing courses for OU undergraduate students, with faculty retaining great flexibility and autonomy to draw from a range of topics and interests to design writing courses.  The renewable-term, non-tenure track position offers a five-year contract.  Starting salary begins at $45,000 with full benefits, a travel and research stipend, and opportunities for promotion and pay raises.

We seek teachers who are committed to inclusive pedagogy in undergraduate education and interested in using an expansive set of pedagogical approaches, including digital media and universal design for learning (UDL).

Job Duties:

  • Teach two courses per semester, with enrollment capped at 16 students per section..
  • Perform program services, with options for university, scholarly, and community-engaged service.
  • Keep up with pedagogical trends and recommended practices in writing pedagogy.
  • Partcipate in ongoing professional development around writing pedagogy and other relevant topics.

Required Education:

  • Terminal degree by start date (doctoral or MFA candidates accepted). 
  • At least two years of experience teaching writing at the undergraduate level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition or related field with training in writing pedagogy.
  • Experience designing topic-based writing courses
  • Experience teaching multi-modal composition projects
  • Experience teaching first-year undergraduate students
  • Teaching and/or research experience related to popular science, political science, digital humanities, disability studies, Oklahoma and/or regional history and culture, or other cultural studies.
