Perform functions related to the preservation of public peace and order, the prevention and detection of crime, the apprehension of offenders, the protection of persons and property, the enforcement of laws of the State of Indiana and the ordinances of the City of Muncie, the enforcement of rules and regulations of Ball State University, and the safeguarding of individual and collective rights of the citizenry.

Job Function:
Perform functions related to the preservation of public peace and order, the prevention and detection of crime, the apprehension of offenders, the protection of persons and property, the enforcement of laws of the State of Indiana and the ordinances of the City of Muncie, the enforcement of rules and regulations of Ball State University, and the safeguarding of individual and collective rights of the citizenry.
Minimum Education:
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Successful completion of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier 1 basic training course.
Preferred Education:
1. Associate’s degree or two years of college or equivalent experience in law enforcement or two years of active military service in the U.S. Armed Forces.
2. Bachelor’s degree.
3. Successful completion of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy basic training course, or completion of an equivalent training program approved by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.
Minimum Experience:
1. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
2. Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty and be able to meet physical fitness standards as defined by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
3. Must pass a written examination and polygraph test pre-offer.
4. Must pass a post offer/pre-employment psychological evaluation, medical, drug and alcohol test.
5. Must pass skills test.
6. Must be at least age 21 at time of hire.
7. Must be a U.S. Citizen in accordance with Indiana code 250 IAC 2-3-1.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Properly operate and maintain acceptable levels of proficiency in the use of department issued or approved equipment.
- Patrol campus and university property by vehicle and on foot; conduct building and security checks; report any unusual or suspicious conditions.
- Investigate disturbances or criminal violations occurring on university or surrounding property; perform all tasks necessary to restore peace and order or apprehend possible offenders.
- Investigate vehicle accidents on university or surrounding property; conduct appropriate investigations, provide necessary emergency care, and assist as necessary.
- Act as first responder to all fire alarms and EMS calls on university or surrounding property; assist emergency services in any way possible and administer aid in all situations to the level of training achieved.
- Enforce Ball State, City of Muncie, and State of Indiana parking and traffic regulations; direct traffic when required.
- Issue citations and effect custodial arrest of law violators.
- Assist members of the community and other law enforcement agencies in an appropriate manner.
- Perform community policing initiatives as directed by the department.
- Prepare and write detailed reports; investigate all accidents, criminal cases, and incidents to provide complete documentation for Ball State; provide necessary information to assist the prosecutor's office in preparing criminal cases.
- Provide security/escort and transportation for campus cash transactions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
