Work Hours per week: up to 20.0
Hourly Rate of Pay: $14.00
What our office does:
First Year Experience (FYE) Peer Leaders support the efforts of all First Year Experience & Student Success Initiatives beginning with FYE Registration/Enrollment events and the FYE Peer Mentoring Program at CSN.
Serving as a campus resource, these trained student workers are knowledgeable about the CSN college experience, assist new students in their transition to CSN, and provide continuous engagement and connections with students throughout the first year. They are trained experts in the first-year student journey at CSN, having a broad understanding of the variables that may positively or negatively affect a first-year student’s experience. FYE Peer Leaders represent the diversity of the CSN community in experience, interests, and ideas. FYE Peer Leaders aid in the student development of personal, social, and academic skills for success, and they report to the Coordinator of Orientation and Director of First Year Experience. Our services benefit CSN students and staff.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Peer Mentoring
Welcome new students to CSN.
Assist new students in navigating CSN and its resources.
Provide Peer Mentoring to new CSN Students. Peer Leaders may be assigned to support multiple student mentees throughout the semester and must meet with each mentee assigned to them at least twice per month to provide mentoring and academic guidance.
Student Engagement
Participate in the FYE Homeroom portal on CANVAS.
Interact with CSN students on First Year Experience Department’s social media pages.
Participate in large and small group discussions atFirst Year Experience Events.
Support other welcoming initiatives such as Welcome Back days, CSN Connections, and other events as assigned.
Provide assistance to the Coyote Crew Club, a recognized student organization at CSN, to drive student interest and participation in the Coyote Crew Club’s student engagement events.
Outreach to Students
Conduct outbound phone calls to new CSN students to provide general assistance and referrals as necessary.
Secondary Job Duties & Other Responsibilities
Assist withFirst Year Experience programming, orientation, and registration events.
Support Students First Stations throughout the academic year to assist new students with completing CSN applications, scheduling appointments for academic advising, providing resource awareness, and assisting enrollment efforts.
Prepare event materials.
Attend all FYE Peer Leadership trainings.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Must be eligible for Federal Work Study at CSN for Fall 2024 – Spring 2025
Positive attitude and public presentation skills.
Completion of at least one semester (minimum) at CSN.
Currently enrolled at CSN student in a Degree/Certificate program forthe 2024–2025 Academic year.
Must have good communication skills and ability to engage with students, parents, families, and CSN staff.
At application must be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3 or greater; to remain an orientation leader must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Free from major time commitments during summer (May through August)
Concern for others and ability to interact well as a member of a team.

Offer and acceptance of a Work Study Award are not a guarantee of employment. Wages under this position are paid from Work Study awards administered by the CSN Financial Aid Department. To maintain eligibility, students must
· Show a financial aid-eligible major (degree or certificate program) declared with the CSN Office of the Registrar, and
· Meet Financial Aid Satisfactory Progress after each semester/term to qualify for employment within the academic year, and
· Show degree-compliant enrollment for each semester/term for which funding is desired.
· Be enrolled in at least 6 credits and meet additional eligibility requirements of the Silver State Regents Service Program for summer semester/term employment.
· *Students cannot work another part-time position within NSHE at the same time they are employed as a CSN College Work Study student.
