To provide sign language interpretation services for students, teachers, and staff that are Deaf or hard of hearing.Job Description:
- Provides sign language interpreting services for students, faculty, and staff that are Deaf or hard of hearing.
- Prepares for assignments by reading textbooks; conferring with students, instructors, and/or other interpreters.
- Reports student no shows and class cancellations to the Interpreter Services Office.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures in the Austin Community College (ACC) Interpreter Services Handbook.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language, sign language interpreting, and Deaf culture.
- Providing sign language interpreting/transliterating services in classrooms, meetings, student registration, and testing, tutoring and counseling environments.
- Maintaining an established work schedule.
- Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills including tact and diplomacy.
- Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
- Effectively working with a diverse and multicultural student body.
- One year sign language interpreting work experience or completion of an Interpreter Preparation Program Internship.
- One year work experience sign language interpreting in a post-secondary educational environment.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Associate degreeor higher.
- Possess any of the following: State of Texas/BEI 5; BEI: Master; Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) RID: Master; RID:SC:L.
- Sign language interpreting and transliterating services provided in educational environments.
- Interpreter Services policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of ACC Administrative Rules, Policies and Procedures, and/or Datatel software.
- Work is typically performed in an office environment, classrooms, classroom laboratories, and/or clinical settings.
- Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
- Occasional lifting and moving of objects up to 10 pounds.
- Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
Pay Rate
$51.80/hour
