Job Description

Summary

Performs routine and specialized CT exams for interpretation by the radiologist using specialized equipment. Additionally, responsible for patient care, appropriate documentation, quality control, performance improvement, and maintaining a safe environment.

Job Duties

  • Confirms appropriateness of ordered exams from the diagnosis with 100% accuracy. Contacts appropriate medical staff for additional information regarding the patient when necessary.
  • Communicates with the Radiologist to obtain appropriate exam protocol when needed. Makes informed decisions regarding protocols when the radiologist protocol is unavailable.
  • Selects appropriate equipment and patient position to ensure optimal diagnostic images as observed by the radiologist.
  • Operates CT scanner independently to acquire the appropriate images while ensuring adherence to established safety standards.
  • Responsible for in-depth knowledge of all routine section specific protocols/procedures. Able to perform specialized procedures/protocols with limited assistance.
  • Ensures Radiation Safety requirements are met through verbal screenings by the CT staff, prior to persons entering the room. Protects patients from ionizing radiation by following ALARA
  • Properly administers contrast agents, utilizes sterile or aseptic technique where applicable.
  • Reviews medications and allergies.
  • Effectively starts IVs.
  • Assists the radiologist with any procedure requested.
  • Performs quality control checks for all exams scanned to ensure all images are on Radiant Epic/PACS system.
  • Completes the diagnostic examination and all image post processing
  • Relays all equipment malfunctions to the Engineering team, supervisor with appropriate information readily available.
  • Helps nurse call patients back when needed.
  • Starts IV's
  • Keeps inventory & orders supplies.
  • Keeps are stock and linenes.
  • Uploads outside images (CD's).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
  • Three years of relevant experience.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Computed Tomography(CT) or registry eligible and Licensure by the Texas Medical Board (TMB).
