Summary

The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine's vision and mission is to optimize health outcomes for all acutely ill and injured children and excel in family-centered care, education, research, and innovation, with a commitment to service and quality that enhances the health and well-being of children needing emergency care.

The PEM Division Chief will provide leadership, direction, and development for all clinical and academic activities (including but not limited to quality and safety, advocacy, education, and research) within the Division of Emergency Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital - Medical Center, West, Woodlands, and Austin Campuses. In addition, the Division Chief will motivate and develop physicians, trainees, other healthcare providers, and staff by accurately assessing and addressing the needs of individuals and teams to continuously improve and optimize performance. The Division Chief will maintain a clinical practice - continuing to treat patients in the Houston-based Texas Children's Emergency Centers (ECs); partner with medical and administrative leadership to optimize patient care across the system; facilitate clinical education and training of faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate medical education trainees, and other healthcare providers within and adjacent to emergency medicine; oversee EC team members' interactions with and treatment of patients; and sustain and advance opportunities in scholarly academic work. Emphasis will be placed on fostering interdisciplinary teamwork for optimal patient care that includes interface with different pediatric subspecialties as well as clinical services in other departments and divisions.

Job Duties

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the PEM Division in the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital across all campuses in its clinical and academic missions.
  • Partner with medical and administrative leadership to optimize patient care across the system. Facilitate clinical education and training of faculty, staff, undergraduate/graduate medical education trainees, and other healthcare providers within and adjacent to emergency medicine.
  • Work with the PEM Division, all Departments within the Texas Children's system, and hospital leadership to translate mutual visions and missions into exemplary clinical and academic programs, with the goal of maintaining top-tiered, national recognition for the Division, Department, College, and Hospital.
  • Strengthen the reputation and research activity within the PEM Division.
  • Sustain and build further an international scholarly academic recognition and clinical expertise in pediatric emergency medicine. Promote the academic missions of Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital

Minimum Qualifications

  • Board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics or American Board of Emergency Medicine, or equivalent training.
  • Ability to practice medicine in Texas.
