Job Description

Summary

The Behavioral Health Specialist will provide assessment and therapy services to children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral concerns who attend area school districts. Care will be provided virtually while the student is either at home or in school. The Behavioral Health Specialist will provide this care within the context of the state-funded Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium and Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine program.

Position will reside in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences under Dr. Courtney Alvarez, and will provide assessment and therapy services to youth in collaboration with the program providers of Baylor College of Medicine - Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and community partners.

Job Duties

  • Provides assessment for and treatment of behavioral health problems for children and adolescents in a telehealth format.
  • Develops treatment plans with patients and families to address mental health problems.
  • Provides brief therapeutic interventions for mental health problems.
  • Provides case coordination and care management when indicated.
  • Consults with psychiatrists and other care team members regarding patient care responsibilities.
  • Completes required documentation and statistical reporting in a timely manner.
  • Attends center staff meetings, program and department meetings as required.
  • Provides educational presentations to school district personnel, parents, and students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern (LPC – I), Licensed Professional Associate - Intern (LPA-I),Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist-Associate (LMFT-A), Licensed Marriage Family Therapist(LMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.
