About This Role:

On December 21, 2023, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approved Lamar University’s request to create a new Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and change the name of the Phillip M. Drayer Electrical Engineering Department to the Phillip M. Drayer Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering effective January 1, 2024. The department hired one Computer Engineering faculty in Fall 2024 and seeks to hire more this academic year. Therefore, we invite applications for one or more full time open rank faculty positions in all areas of Computer Engineering beginning Spring or Fall 2025. The successful applicant will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and build a successful research program in one or more of the Computer Engineering related areas. Special consideration will be given to the applicants with industrial or research experience in semiconductors & embedded systems, however other computer engineering areas can be considered too. Exceptionally qualified candidates may also be considered for an Endowed position.

What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:

The candidate will be expected to help further our mission of educating undergraduate and graduate students in ECE, fostering cross-fertilization with other disciplines, advancing the state-of-the-art knowledge in ECE and allied fields through novel and sustained research, serving the public, academic, and industrial communities through consultation, collaborative efforts, dissemination of research results, entrepreneurship, or participation in conferences of professional societies, and valuing different perspectives. Outstanding candidates will be considered for the Gill Endowed Chair of Computer Engineering.

Physical Requirements:

Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)
B.Sc., M.Sc and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Engineering.
Degrees in Electrical Engineering can be accepted if the applicant has research and/or industrial experience in Computer Engineering or related areas.
The PhD degree must be earned by August 2025.
Candidate must have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, conducting research, and an ability to attract funded sponsorship in one or more of the research areas related to Computer Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)
Industrial experience in Computer Engineering or related fields.
Experience in writing research proposals and sustained success in securing external funding.
Experience in teaching courses in Computer Engineering.
