The Department of Finance and Economics in the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-line position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, specializing in Economics, to begin in Fall 2025.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach both graduate and undergraduate economics courses at our San Marcos and Round Rock campuses, publish high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals, and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession. All areas of applied microeconomics will be considered. Candidates must have an interest in applying innovative and rigorous analytical approaches to interesting real-world problems in economics. Experienced candidates for the rank of Associate Professor are expected to carry a track record of high-quality research and an established research agenda.
The Department of Finance and Economics is a large, multidisciplinary department with over 40 faculty members engaging in innovative teaching and research including investments, corporate finance, derivatives, economics, and business law. The department offers Bachelor’s degrees in Finance and Economics and a Master’s degree in Quantitative Finance and Economics. The department also supports the college’s MBA program and newly created Online DBA.

Required Qualifications
Assistant Professor:
Earned Ph.D. in Economics from an accredited university by the time of appointment.
Specialization in applied microeconomics and applied econometrics.
Strong potential for publishing in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals.
Strong potential for superior teaching effectiveness at the university level.
Associate Professor:
Earned Ph.D. in Economics from an accredited university by the time of appointment.
A record of research excellence as evidence by papers published in premier academic journals.
An active and ambitious research agenda and demonstrated leadership in areas of applied microeconomics and applied econometrics.
A demonstrated record of teaching excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
Assistant Professor:
evidence of quality teaching.
expertise in health economics, economics of education, and labor economics.
expertise in advanced econometric estimation methods.
publications in refereed journals.
current and/or past external grant support.
Associate Professor:
A record of extensive research excellence in health economics, economics of education, and labor economics.
A demonstrated record of mentorship of junior researchers and graduate students.
A demonstrated record of academic leadership experience.
