Job Description
The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking to hire an experienced Laboratory Supervisor. The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for managing the laboratory activities and personnel. They will conduct primary research along with lab personnel. The candidate will also represent the Biology department at scientific symposiums and meetings and be responsible for editing scientific writing.
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory Supervisor are as follows:
Supervise and train undergraduate students, master's students, and visiting research fellows.
Provide training for initial lab induction and safety protocols to new members of the lab.
Provide training for various aspects of RNA-seq techniques, including RNA extraction and bioanalysis, rRNA depletion, RNA fragmentation, Library preparation and assessment of the mRNA library via Bioanalyzer, and preparing the library pools for submission to the sequencing core for lab members and external collaborators.
Provide training for various aspects of microbiological approaches: culturing, growth curves, MICs, confocal, molecular manipulation.
Provide lab members with training on approved animal models (abscess model).
Perform miscellaneous individualized assistance such as proofreading, editing, persuasive writing critique, and assist with data display and presentation.
Preparation of RNA samples from in vitro, in vivo, and primary human samples for transcriptomics.
Evaluate, assess, and report on RNA-sequencing methods and procedures.
Develop and refine RNA-seq methodology.
Compile and organize data production for manuscript preparation.
Design and prepare genomic constructs for molecular microbiology.
Proofread, edited, and styled critiques of written sections for publication and other manuscripts.
Purchasing of all supplies and materials used in the lab.
Liaise with institutional management entities, oversee arrangements and provide logistics support for the lab.
Provide support to the PI by completing and pre-submitting electronic submissions for compliance and hygiene protocols.
Coordinate with external companies regarding equipment purchase and maintenance.
Liaise with external national and international for shipment of biospecimens and requested strains and plasmids.
Create and curate SOPs for general laboratory practices and specific techniques.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
Some college or associate's degree and five years of laboratory research experience.
Preferred Requirements:
Experience with RNAseq on complex/challenging samples such as primary human samples or soil; worked with bacteria for 5+ years; experience in animal infection modeling; experience mentoring/training students.
