The University of Oklahoma, College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Health and Exercise is hiring two tenure-track Assistant Professors in Health Promotion to accommodate an increasing student demand and to broaden the research scope that aligns with the university’s overall mission. Applicants should have a research focus in the following: Health and Risk Behavior Prevention, Community-Based Health Promotion Interventions, or Health Disparities. About the Department

The Department of Health and Exercise Science is an interdisciplinary program and one of the largest in the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences. It is nationally ranked by the National Academy of Kinesiology. The program focuses on Health Promotion and Exercise Physiology and integrates the biological, physiological, medical, and behavioral sciences as they relate to physiological responses to exercise and other aspects of human health.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.     PhD or equivalent in Health Promotion/Public Health/Health Education or related field. Applicants who are ABD will be considered but they must have obtained their terminal degree by start of appointment.

2.     A plan of research with a focus on health and risk behavior prevention, community-based health promotion interventions, or health disparities.  

3.     Record of published research or demonstrate research potential. 

4.     Applicants must demonstrate the ability to collaborate within the department and across the university. 

5.     Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach and develop both undergraduate and graduate courses related to Health Promotion.

Preferred Qualifications:

1.     An established line of research that focuses on the following: Health and Risk Behavior Prevention, Community-Based Health Promotion Interventions, or Health Disparities, however, all areas of Public Health, Community Health, and Health Promotion Expertise will be considered. 

2.     Teaching experience in Health Promotion courses (undergraduate and/or graduate) is preferred. Previous experiences teaching courses such as Program Planning, Community Assessment, Program Evaluation, Health Promotion Theory, or Research Methods is preferred. 

3.     Faculty who can add to the research mission of the department while complementing and broadening the research expertise of the faculty. 

4.     Evidence of current or past external funding or potential to secure funding in the future.

Responsibilities

1.     Conduct research and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

2.     Seek external funding.

3.     Teach undergraduate and graduate courses. The expected teaching load of this position will be 2 courses per semester; typically, 1 undergraduate and 1 graduate. 

4.     Perform service to the profession, university, college, and department.
