Job Function:

Determine student loan eligibility for the Federal Direct Loan Program and private education loans; process student loan requests; adjust student loan records; communicate with private lenders; monitor federal borrowing limits.

Minimum Education:

Up to eighteen months of education beyond high school or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

At least one year of experience in a financial or business related function.

Preferred Experience:

Additional years of experience in a financial aid related function.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Calculate student loan eligibility for private loan programs; process loan applications and loan disbursements; work with students as needed in determining allowable loan period, lender requirements and loan amounts, communicating with lenders as necessary; adjust loans and loan periods as requested after loans have been disbursed; correct disbursement errors from Banner reports; return loan funds working with the Accounting Office, ELM website, and lenders.
  • Maintain records of private loan activity; notify lender, disbursing agent, and university Accounting Office with discrepancies; reconcile private loans on regular basis; meet with bank representatives in order to be competent to offer students accurate information.
  • Monitor aggregate loan limits of students with the National Student Loan Database System (NSLDS); track loan types and totals; override Banner records based on NSLDS totals as required.
  • Adjust financial aid packages and process adjustments to loan eligibility based upon various situations (i.e., receipt of additional aid, budget reductions, changes in need analysis, withdrawal refunds, student requests, stale checks, etc.).
  • Assist other departmental offices (i.e., Student Financial Services and Accounting) in reviewing student accounts and verifying the accuracy of loan records; communicate with other schools about specific students' past loans; contact the U.S. Department of Education Common Origination and Disbursement Center to resolve loan issues.
  • Calculate student loan eligibility based on Federal Direct Loan Program guidelines; calculate budgets and review other factors affecting loan eligibility (i.e., previous loan history, prior loan periods, etc.); originate loans.
  • Compose and type correspondence utilizing the university email system.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
