Job Description
Summary
We are seeking self-motivated individual to work in a laboratory at the Jan and Dan Duncan NRI focused on the underlying genetics, molecular mechanisms and developing therapeutic strategies of genetic neurological disorders. Candidate must have in-depth knowledge and expertise in working with iPSC-derived neurons, mouse work (routine behavioral assays for neurological disorders, stereotactic surgical procedures and mouse colony breeding and maintenance), molecular techniques like qRT-PCR, Western Blotting, immunocytochemistry etc. Candidate will assist in several projects including Alzheimer\'s Disease, Parkinson\'s Disease, and MeCP2 projects. The candidate will work in a collaborative lab environment with post-doctoral researchers, staff scientists and Investigators within the team and from other labs in the NRI to carry out research projects.
Job Duties
- Designs and implements experiments to test hypotheses and collect, analyze and scientific data.
- Presents scientific data and participate in scientific discussions at internal and external meetings and conferences.
- Performs experiments in human iPSCs and iPSC-derived neurons that include but are not limited to iPSC culture, maintenance, infection with virus, neuron differentiation.
- Performs experiments in human neural progenitor cells (NPCs) that include NPC culture, maintenance and differentiation.
- Carriesout molecular and biochemical assays on cells of human and mouse-origin, mouse and postmortem human brain tissues.
- Designs and performs CRISPR/Cas9 editing experiments, designs and tests anti-sense oligonucleotides, and other small molecules in cell cultures of HEK293T, iPSC-derived neurons.
- Attends weekly lab meetings/journal club meetings.
- Assists in writing progress reports for the PI and works on manuscripts to submit for publication
Minimum Qualifications
- MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
- No experience required.
