City of Hope Lennar Foundation Cancer Center in Irvine is looking for a Pre-Anesthesia (PAT RN). The PAT RN plays a critical role in preparing patients for surgical and procedural admissions. You will be responsible for preparing patients for scheduled surgical or diagnostic procedures. This includes conducting pre-operative assessments, reviewing medical histories, coordinating necessary pre-admission tests, educating patients and families, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Additional Information:

  • Position: Hybrid position. (3 days a week in-person)
  • Hours: Monday – Friday, 8-hour shifts.
  • Sign on bonus: $20,000.00.

As a successful candidate you will:

  • Conduct compressive nursing assessment, including obtaining patient medical history, current medications, allergies, and surgical risk factors.
  • Review patient charts in MyChart, physician notes, and test results to ensure all pre-admission requirements are met.
  • Identify potential health issues that may impact the patient’s surgical experience and communicate these to the appropriate healthcare provider.
  • Coordinate and schedule necessary pre-operative testing such as lab work, EKG, X-rays, and other diagnostic tests.
  • Ensure all test results are available and reviewed prior to the scheduled procedure.
  • Works closely with anesthesiologist, nurse practitioner and other healthcare team members to provide a seamless care plan.
  • Educate patients and their families on the surgical procedure, pre-operative preparation, post-operative care, and discharge instructions.
  • Address any patient concerns, or questions regarding their upcoming procedure.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure all necessary information is conveyed clearly and effectively.
  • Adhere to all infection control, safety, and quality standards established by City of Hope Lennar Foundation Cancer Center.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to the pre-admission testing process.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in nursing is required.
  • Three to five years related experience.
  • *For Perioperative Service – Requirement of 1-year perioperative experience or formal Perioperative nursing specialty course completed prior to application or within 6 months of hire or transfer.
  • Current California Registered Nurse License
  • Current BLS certification from American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS certification from American Heart Association

Preferred qualifications should include:

  • Master’s degree in nursing or related field
  • National certification (must be obtained within three years of hire and must be maintained thereafter in order to retain Clinical Nurse III status)

Pay Rate: $59.57 - $86.37 / hour
