Job Summary:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Graduate School provides an instructional and research environment for approximately 11,000 graduate students. This is a new position that will help to advance the administrative and educational missions of the Graduate School by developing, enhancing, and supporting mission critical, data-driven web applications and supporting tools.

All aspects of the job require the ability to advise and provide support to faculty, administrative staff, and graduate students in developing and using information systems. This necessitates the successful candidate to obtain an advanced understanding of graduate education.

Responsibilities:
Designs, develops, tests, debugs, operates, and troubleshoots software and applications. Conducts system analysis and design, and provides technical leadership, training, and guidance to less experienced staff to support information technology business operations.
10% Reviews application design specifications, codes new applications, and makes enhancements to existing applications
10% Designs and implements test plans, and prepares systems test data
10% Prepares program documentation and training requirements
10% Develops, prepares, or modifies technical specifications for complex projects, system integrations, and upgrades
10% Conducts systems analysis, reviews and interprets system requirements, and develops detailed system design specifications for system integration and upgrades
10% Reviews application modules for quality assurance and checks compliance with application architecture standards
5% Conducts analysis for the evaluation and selection of vendor software solutions and packages
5% Leads sub-functional team for application development or enhancement
5% Contributes to the development of data structure and systems performance strategies
5% Trains and provides technical guidance to lower level staff
10% Exercises supervisor authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked for at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employ
10% Reporting directly to the Dean of the Graduate School, participates on the Graduate School leadership team and collaboratively plans information technology strategy for graduate education at UW-Madison.
Tasks:
Work with colleagues in the Graduate School to identify development priorities and timelines in a variety of systems
Participate in campus-facing IT committees
Design, develop, test, document and deploy mission critical information systems as a team using a practical application of industry best practices
Design and implement solutions that maximize security, reliability and maintainability
Automate complex data integration between systems
Design and develop enterprise reporting tools and data mart
Enhance and maintain existing enterprise applications and supporting information systems
Monitor server and application log files and resolve anomalies that appear
When necessary, provision small volume of user accounts and delegate permissions to resources
As a member of the Graduate School IT team, collaborate on solutions and strategies to support the Graduate School's mission of fostering excellence in research and graduate education
