Role Summary
The University of Missouri Controller’s office is seeking a qualified Financial Reporting Accountant to join the Accounting and Financial Reporting Team. This position reports to the Director of Finance and Accounting and works with the University’s external auditor and accounting staff at each campus and hospital. This position will also have opportunities to collaborate with upper levels of management.


A successful candidate for this position in the Controller’s Office will:

Be self-motivated and proactively solve problems with little oversight
Be detail oriented with the ability to summarize at a high level
Display high levels of critical thinking
Exhibit effective communication skills
Understand the relationships between financial statements
Have external auditing experience, preferably at a large or regional firm
Have experience with financial statement preparation
Have experience with governmental accounting

Key Responsibilities:

Review financial reports and transactions to ensure accuracy of financial data and adherence to accounting standards.
Support the development and improvement of finance related policies and procedures.
Assist in year-end close of the University consolidated financial statements and preparation of the annual financial report.
Help implement new Governmental Accounting Standards
Complete complex accounting analysis upon request
Review or perform account reconciliations as needed
Perform finance compliance reporting evaluations

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of the University of Missouri System.

Shift
Monday - Friday; 8-5pm




Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary


Preferred Qualifications
Experience working for or with external audit firms.
A bachelor's degree in accounting
Master’s Degree
Certified Public Accountant
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Proficient with Microsoft products
Experience with Tableau or Power BI and Peoplesoft
Experience interpreting Government Accounting Standards

Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 per year
