Ball State University welcomes applications for the Associate Vice President for Facilities, Planning, and Management.

Guided by Destination 2040: Our Flight Path, and the University Campus Plan Update, the Associate Vice President for Facilities, Planning, and Management (AVPFPM) provides strategic leadership to the University’s facilities operations. The AVPFPM will build upon the years of strong stewardship of the University’s physical assets — a beautiful 788-acre campus that includes over 7.6 million square feet of space and over 90 major buildings. This role has direct responsibility for all aspects of academic and administration facilities management, including physical space planning, design and construction management, maintenance and repair, landscaping and grounds, custodial and maintenance services, utilities distribution (including operations of the geothermal plant), transportation, and budget oversight.

Job Function:

Principal administrative officer responsible for Facilities Planning and Management; includes the development and implementation of the university’s facilities master plan; oversight for construction projects and for the operation of university facilities.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a professional field related to management, facilities management, engineering, architecture, or construction.

Preferred Education:

Master’s degree.

Minimum Experience:

At least ten years of experience in facilities operations, construction, or related field, five years of which must be in a significant administrative position.

Preferred Experience:

Experience in a related position with a higher education institution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish goals, objectives, policies, and general direction for areas of responsibility which include Facilities Planning, Facilities Management, Space Assignment and Utilization, and Transportation.
  • Provide direction in the operation of Facilities Planning and Management for the following management functions: planning, budgeting, financial management, employee selection and assessment, program coordination, and general operations.
  • Direct the development of project plans for new construction and renovation of existing facilities in conjunction with planning committees and contract architects.
  • Oversee the preparation of presentation materials to be reviewed by various university and external boards, committees, and councils.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of space utilization studies and the development of short- and long-range plans with the Director of Business Services and Transportation.
  • Provide direction in the development of supporting data for the purpose of funding new construction, major renovation projects, and campus improvements.
  • Recommend personnel actions for professional and administrative staff and exercise general supervision over managerial, office, technical, and student employees.
  • Serve as a member of Senior Staff within Business Affairs.
  • Full managerial responsibility for interviewing and selection, coaching, compensation, discipline, performance appraisal, training and career development of personnel for a work unit.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Direct acquisition of real estate in areas adjacent to the campus for future university use; recommend sale of property; administer policies and procedures for university rental properties; assist Ball State University Foundation with gift and trust agreements for donated properties.
