Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Housing and Residence Life at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington houses approximately 5200 students in a combination of residence halls, suites, and apartments. In order to facilitate a positive living experience on the campus, a variety of staff are necessary to carry out the responsibilities. Full-time professional staff, student residence hall staff, and facilities staff work to develop an atmosphere conducive to academic and personal growth. It is the mission of the Department of Housing and Residence Life to appropriately challenge residents to develop to their full potential by supporting their educational and personal growth and development.

The Department of Housing and Residence Life strives to establish a satisfactory physical environment that emphasizes the utilization of human and material resources in an efficient manner. Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Assistant Director for Technology is a member of the Business Services team in Department of Housing and Residence Life.

This position is responsible for the following:
Coordinates and aligns technology software/ hardware operations with department functions
Oversees and implements the housing management software system and ensures the software system is operating effectively and is integrated with the University’s enrollment strategies
Responsible for supporting the assignments staff throughout the year regarding various business processes and updating the housing management system database
Responsible for coordinating with campus partners on enterprise information technology updates or changes that may affect HRL business practices or operations
Supervises the Technology Support Specialist and oversees the organization, accountability audit, and lifecycle management of the department’s computer hardware and software systems
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from a two year technical college with a major in computer science, information technology or related area and one year in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or graduation from a four year college or university and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or graduation from a four year college or university with a major in computer science or information technology or related degree.

Related information technology experience may be substituted year for year for the required education.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience
Prior knowledge or experience in housing and residence life and understanding of the housing assignment process
Prior knowledge and experience with StarRez
Experience utilizing Structured Query Language (SQL)
Experience with technology lifecycle management

Required Certifications or licensure
No other license or certification is required for this position outside of degree requirement and N.C. driver’s license.
