Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The mission of Information Technology Services is to explore, implement, and support the uses of technology to achieve the University’s academic and administrative objectives as stated in the University strategic plan.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The IT Network Security Administrator position will provide the day-to-day maintenance and support of network security efforts as part of the ITS information security program at Fayetteville State University. This position reports directly to the Chief Information Security Officer and works closely with the IT Security Architect and IT Security Analyst to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of campus network resources.
Description of Work Continued:
Technical Knowledge – 55%:
Configures, tests, and deploys physical and virtual network security equipment at our on-premises data centers and in Azure as needed.
Configures, tests, and deploys network security software at our on-premises data centers and in Azure as needed.
Responsible for the administration and maintenance of campus firewalls.
Responsible for ensuring network device configurations align with best practices.
Audits and maintains records of network device configurations.

Support – 30%
Supports IT Security Architect with the development and implementation of network security-related projects and research.
Supports IT Security Analysts with the collection and review of network-related incident data.
Interacts with end users to identify and accommodate network related needs for new technologies in a way that aligns with IT security best practices.
Coordinates with other teams to execute and support change/maintenance windows for infrastructure systems.
Participates in the change management process: creating, reviewing, implementing, and validating changes.

Control and Monitoring – 15%
Monitors and manages network security infrastructure to ensure security, availability, recoverability, performance, and supportability.
Performs routine auditing of network infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities.
Opens support tickets with vendors when needed to resolve hardware/software issues.
Responds to alerts overnight/weekends as part of an on-call rotation.
Generates monthly reporting on attack trends based on network logs.
Works with IT security architect to develop and implement alerts based on attack trends and emerging threats.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
A master’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, or computer engineering and two (2) to four (4) years’ experience in operations analysis and design systems programming or closely related area.

OR

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, or computer engineering with three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in operations analysis and design systems programming or closely related area.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Preferred Qualifications:
Industry and manufacturer-specific experience and/or certifications (examples: CompTIA, SANS/GIAC, ISC2, Cisco, Palo Alto).
Hands-on experience with Cisco network hardware.
Hands-on experience with Palo Alto network hardware.
Hands-on experience with Splunk.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Sentinel.
Ability to perform network reconnaissance and identification/assessment of potential vulnerabilities.
Troubleshooting skills.
