Job Description

The Office of Health Sciences Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (OHSDEI”) is searching for a talented individual with a passion for data analysis and research. The role of the Research Analyst within the Office of Health Sciences Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion plays a crucial role in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data for research purposes. Under the supervision of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – Health Sciences, this position will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from the six Pitt Health Sciences schools - the School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, School of Public Health, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, School of Pharmacy, and the School of Nursing, and other sources to enhance OHS-DEI written content, trainings, communications, strategy, and support research projects and initiatives. The person selected for this position will collaborate with a variety of professionals including researchers, scientists, and other stakeholders to gather relevant data, perform statistical analysis, and present findings in a clear and concise manner.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:



Data Collection – Collect data from various sources and leads collection, analysis, and presentation of HS-DEI related data. Ensure data quality and integrity through careful documentation and validation processes.

Literature Review and Repository Development and Maintenance – Conduct thorough literature reviews and synthesizing findings to support various projects, initiatives, and academic research endeavors; assesses the credibility, relevance, and quality of sources to ensure the reliability of information obtained; analyzes and synthesizes findings from sources to identify key themes, trends, and patterns; interpret findings from the literature and provide insightful analysis to support project objectives, research hypotheses, or strategic decision-making. Create and maintain repository of journal articles and other materials.

Statistical Analysis – Apply statistical techniques and methodologies to analyze data sets. Perform descriptive and inferential statistics, regression analysis, hypothesis testing, and other advanced analytical methods as required.

Report Production – Interpret analysis results and draw meaningful conclusions. Compile findings into clear, concise reports or summaries with visualizations such as charts, graphs, and dashboards to communicate key findings and insights effectively.

Research Support – Provide support to research efforts with multidisciplinary teams by assisting in methodology development and data interpretation.

Data Management – Maintain organized data repositories and adhere to data management best practices. Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and ethical standards in research.

Contributing to OHSDEI programmatic priorities as needed.

Job Summary
Evaluates business requirements and performs moderately advanced data integration and analysis. Develops moderately advanced analytical and reporting tools utilizing integrated data. Provides technical support.

Essential Functions
Proficiency in statistical analysis software such as R, SAS, SPSS, or Python libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, SciPy).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Experience with data visualization tools.
Strong literature review skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Familiarity with research methodologies and study design principles.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team. Prior experience in research or academic settings is a plus.
Physical Effort
Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
