About the Department
The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology supports teaching, research, and extension programs in fundamental plant biology and microbiology, including basic and applied research, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and outreach to state and national clientele.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences houses 12 Academic departments with 294 faculty, 2,891 undergraduate students and 899 graduate students. The College is home to 18 research stations strategically located across the state that enhances our interactions with our farmers, stakeholders, and industry partners. Essential Job Duties
The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology is seeking a temporary lecturer for PB403/503 course in Systematic Botany (4 credit hours; lecture and lab). Depending on education and experience, the successful candidate will teach either PB 403 (undergraduate only) or PB 403/503 (undergraduate/graduate sections combined) for the Spring 2025 term. The course introduces students to systematic principles and methods as applied to vascular plants, with emphasis on flowering plants. It covers classification, identification, phylogenetics, and molecular approaches, and surveys important and common plant families representing major groups of vascular plants.

Instructional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Course coordination and planning
Content preparation and delivery
Student evaluation
Supplemental interaction with students through office hours including coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities.
The Lecturer is also expected hold office hours and perform other course-related duties.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s of Science Degree in Botany/Plant Biology with emphasis in Systematic Botany or a related discipline and at least two (2) additional years relevant professional or educational experience.
A terminal degree is needed to teach at the graduate level.
Other Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in teaching hands-on courses or workshops at the undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional level in Systematic Botany or closely related subjects, such as Local Flora, Dendrology, Field Botany, Aquatic and Wetland Plants, and/or Grasses/Sedges/Rushes.
Demonstrated experience identifying plants using technical dichotomous keys.
Demonstrated understanding of plant morphological terminology.
Demonstrated knowledge of the current scholarship related to angiosperm phylogeny and evolution.
Demonstrated experience collecting plants and vouchering herbarium specimens.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
