This training position, under the direct supervision of a Cleveland Clinic Principal Investigator will provide practical training and experience in a research setting. This position is appointed through the Lerner Research Institute. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a commitment to research, a collaborative work ethic and strong communication skills, both written and verbal. This program is expected to be completed within 5 years.

The Cole Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in translational optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging and elastography. We are seeking a sharp, enthusiastic, well-trained individual who can contribute substantially to a highly collaborative research team focused on developing and translating clinical applications of OCT imaging of the cornea. The project involves measuring the 3D material properties of the cornea and using these measurements as input to ocular models for personalized surgical planning.

This position will be supervised jointly by Dr. William J. Dupps (Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic) and Prof. Andrew M. Rollins (Biomedical Engineering, Case Western Reserve University).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Independent project design with the goal of data generation, analysis, interpretation and manuscript preparation
  • Develop and validate an OCT elastography system for pre-clinical and clinical research studies
  • Support pre-clinical and clinical studies by maintaining and operating the imaging instrumentation and processing and analyzing data
  • Innovate new measurement and analysis methods to reveal 3D variation of material properties of the cornea
  • Support and participate in pre-clinical and clinical studies using multiple measurement methods, including OCT elastography, Brilloin microscopy, and dynamic OCT

Education:

  • PhD or MD/PhD required
  • MD with relevant laboratory experience may substitute for PhD

Languages:

  • English Proficiency proof required for candidates arriving on J-1, J-2, or F1 + OPT visa status

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience in a research or academic setting.  Graduate student experience meets this requirement.
  • Scientific writing experience

Additional Preferred Qualities:

  • An earned PhD (or equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • Specific expertise in OCT imaging technology and instrumentation is especially preferred
  • Outstanding organization, communication and writing skills
  • The research environment is collegial and productive and the position requires a good balance between independence and team work

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $0.01

Maximum hourly: $333,340.26
