The Financial Analyst for the Division of Information Technology (IT) at Virginia Tech plays a critical role in supporting the financial health and strategic planning of the division. This position is responsible for performing detailed financial analysis, developing and managing budgets, and preparing financial reports. The Financial Analyst collaborates closely with the Director of Finance and Business Operations and IT leadership to provide insights and recommendations that drive informed decision-making and ensure efficient use of resources.

The role involves enhancing the financial and administrative operating efficiencies within the Division of IT. The Financial Analyst serves as a key resource to IT leadership regarding programs, operations, and administrative policies and procedures. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and performing business management support services, such as training employees and overseeing financial planning throughout the year. The position also entails performing accounting and administrative duties for the division, monitoring costs and budgets, and maintaining compliance with university, state, and federal guidelines regarding financial and administrative matters. Additionally, the Financial Analyst assists with other duties in the operation of the division.

Required Qualifications

● Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent level of training and experience.
● Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
● Experience performing fund reconciliations and preparing financial and budgetary reports.
● Extensive experience querying financial data using various databases.
● Demonstrated ability with the application of programs, processes, operations, and administrative policies and procedures.
● Ability to clearly explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
● Strong proficiency in data analysis and visualization software, such as MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Power BI.

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience with VT systems (HokieMart, ChromeRiver, Banner, FINTRACS, MicroStrategy, TimeClock Plus, ERS, SUMMIT).
● Working knowledge of the University's policies and procedures.
