What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an experienced technical Facilities Engineering Project Manager to join our Capital Acquisition Project Management Department and provide project management services for complex line-item building and infrastructure projects. These high-rigor line-item construction projects exceed $30M in value and support the current and future mission needs of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
The Facilities Project Manager exercises overall authority and accountability for the full range of project management responsibilities. This role involves leading cross-functional teams of engineers, architects, construction managers, project controls, code inspectors, and safety professionals in a matrix-type organization.
Capital Acquisition Projects have significant internal and external visibility, and many are tracked at the Laboratory level and directly by NNSA. The successful candidate will work with a matrixed project team consisting of NNSA/Program Customers, Contractors, Technical Partners, Mission Enabling Partners, and Facilities Management to ensure new buildings, infrastructure, and building modifications/upgrades are performed and completed in a timely manner and within scope, budget, and quality expectations. On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Identify, develop, and lead portions of a project with a total project cost in excess of $300M. Use engineering, architectural, and other relevant technical expertise to manage processes.
- Develop project plans, schedules, milestones, and all required documents associated with DOE Order 413.3B, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Employ standard project management practices including project plan development and control, scope management, project scheduling, cost estimation and management, quality assurance, project staffing, communications planning and management, change management, resource management, risk and opportunity management, Earned Value Management (EVM), and procurement/supplier management. Use EVM to analyze, report, and manage project performance.
- Partner with Control Account Managers, Project Managers, Project Controllers, Schedulers, and Cost Analysts. Act as a principal project interface with internal Sandia organizations, as well as external customers (NNSA) and suppliers. Work with various Sandia organizations including security, environment, safety, and health (ES&H) to ensure tasks are properly planned and executed. Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations for all levels of stakeholders, both internal and external to the Laboratory.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Salary Range:
$95,400 - $185,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate\'s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business, or other relevant field plus 5 years of experience in Facilities Program/Project Management; or Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business, or other relevant field plus 1 year of experience in Facilities Project Management.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Demonstrated experience with DOE O 413.3b, preferably in roles such as Project Manager, Deputy Project Manager, or Control Account Manager.
- Proven experience managing large construction projects valued at over $20M.
- Project Management Institute (PMI) certification.
- Demonstrated ability to drive project performance using EVM.
- Excellent communicator with the ability to articulate needs, deadlines, and risks to both internal and external customers.
- Insight into the processes and missions of the NNSA enterprise and/or Sandia’s mission support organizations that collaborate with Capital Projects.
About Our Team:
The Capital Acquisition Project Management Department is responsible for executing capital construction projects within the overarching portfolio, ensuring compliance with DOE O 413.3B requirements.
