Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The University of Maryland’s (UMD) Office of the Vice President for Administration is seeking a proactive problem solver to join our team of professionals who serve the diverse needs of our research and broader university community. Salary is commensurate with experience.

The Director of Enterprise Risk Management is a seasoned professional; reporting to the Office of the Vice President of Administration and Chief Administrative Officer (VPA). The Director of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM Director) serves as leader, partner and facilitator for institution level enterprise risk identification, analysis, evaluation, response, and monitoring. The ERM Director provides strategic direction, planning, vision and goal setting for the development, implementation, and evolution of the Enterprise Risk Management process. Develops short and long-term direction to address current and future institutional risks to promote the operational and financial health of the university. Provides counsel to leadership including the President, President’s Cabinet, and other university leaders on ERM programs.

Starting compensation is expected to be in the range of $156,000 – $195,000.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education (include licenses, certification, etc.):
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.

Experience:
Eight (8) or more years of progressively responsible experience in risk management, strategic university risks, or enterprise risk management.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; detail oriented; able to multitask and meet deadlines.
Strong technical and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse audiences at every level of the university.
Highly effective team-building and team management skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
Strong analytical abilities and project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and synthesize complex information, and the ability to lead strategically with vision in a setting of ambiguity.

Substantial latitude in decision making.

JD, MBA, or advanced degree in risk management, higher education leadership, public sector leadership, public administration, finance, information technology or related field from an accredited college/university.
Applicable professional certification such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM) or Associate in Risk Management (ARM).
Experience working in a University setting and managing a program or staff
