Job Description
Sarah Lawrence College seeks a full-time Assistant Program Director for the Human Genetics Program. The Joan H. Marks Graduate Program in Human Genetics is the nation’s oldest and largest program in genetic counseling and has trained more genetic counselors than any other program in the world. The program continues to evolve and innovate the training and education of genetic counselors. 


Essential Duties Summary
The Assistant Program Director (APD) will gain a holistic view of genetic counseling program leadership with the goal of increasing responsibilities over time. The APD will manage program development, recruitment and outreach activities, and marketing and communications efforts. They will participate in formative and summative evaluations of student competency. This individual will apply genetic counseling expertise to advising student thesis projects, mentoring students, facilitating simulated patient encounters, and contributing to admissions activities.           
 
Additional responsibilities include supporting the Program Director in the program’s instructional, administrative and other functions; assessment and accreditation activities; program strategic planning; developing and implementing program policies and procedures; and performing other work as assigned.
 
They are encouraged to pursue continuing education in curriculum design, assessment, or evaluation annually. Participation in scholarly activities and professional events at a national level is also expected.  

The Assistant Program Director is a full time, twelve-month position. 


Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include:

  • A master’s degree from a genetic counseling/human genetics training program
  • Board certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC
  • Three years of experience as a genetic counselor
  • Prior experience in teaching and supervision of genetic counseling students is preferred
