The Production Manager for the Dance Program will be responsible for the scheduling, oversight, and execution of all of the productions in the Dance Program with a student crew. The Production Manager will introduce students to the various tech positions and make individual assignments for all students each semester based on the students’ availability and experience. Teaching and guiding the graduate and undergraduate dance students in the various aspects of a dance production is a core responsibility. Student tech positions include: Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, Sound/Video Operator, Light Board Operator, Deck Crew, House Management, Poster and Program production, and Wardrobe.

An effective candidate will possess the ability to teach students and to cultivate a culture of respect, inclusion, and care for one another as a team as well as for the facility as a home for their creative endeavors. The ability to model care and to inspire students is a core competency of the position. Calm management of the room and care for all students in all technical rehearsals is also a core responsibility, particularly given the modest prior experience of some students within their roles. Skills in Stage Management, House Management, and basic Stage Craft and the ability to teach students these skills is a core responsibility of the position. Familiarity with basic production electrician skills (ability to replace lamps and troubleshoot emergent electrics problems) and some sound/video skills is preferred.

While sound, video, lighting, costumes, posters, and programs are all supported by the above positions, they are generally only present in the initial technical rehearsals; after that point, the Production Manager will continue oversight, guidance and supervision of the students in these areas. Stage Management and supervision of the student crew as a whole (including deck crew and house managers) is the sole responsibility of the Production Manager. During the initial technical rehearsals, an additional overhire technician will be identified and engaged by the Production Manager to supervise and teach the student operating the light board. After the initial technical rehearsal, Production Manager will supervise and guide the student performing Lighting Board Operation. As such, some familiarity with operation of the ETC Ion Lighting Console and Qlab is strongly preferred.

There are seven production weeks total per year: three in the fall and four in the spring. Open Performance, Winter/Spring Performance, and Performance Project are scheduled every semester. The MFA Thesis Concert is only held in the spring semester. Winter/Spring Performance and the MFA Thesis Concerts will include multiple programs of student work.
