Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Central University’s Information Technology Services (ITS) provides information technology services to schools and departments, administrators, staff, students and the growing population of on-line and distance education students. The objectives of ITS are to improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the administrators, faculty and staff at NCCU through the use of technology, enhance the teaching, learning and research process through the use of technology and to provide adequate support of the technology that is deployed.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of the position is to support the mission of North Carolina Central University through the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise-level applications, interfaces, automation, and integrations. This position will serve as an active member of a highly collaborative team and work closely with other members of the Enterprise Applications and Development Services department, the Information Technology Services division, campus constituents, and vendors.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum of three years of experience working in IT industries developing and supporting Software development in database management.

A working knowledge of SQL and Oracle PL/SQL is a must. Working knowledge of Unix and Java is preferred but not required. Working knowledge of Higher Education is preferred but not required. substantial exposure to project-based work structures, project lifecycle models, and practicing agile methodologies.

Experience with enterprise-level applications that include, but not limited to: Ellucian Banner 8 and 9, Argos, Postman, NextGen, AppWorx, N2N illuminate, Windows, Git/GitHub, and Subversion.

Must possess the ability to learn new technologies and participate as a contributing team member in the implementation of new and/or enhancement of existing technological solutions that support the business, strategic goals, and mission of the university.

Must have excellent research, analysis, and critical thinking skills; must be well knowledgeable in database queries, system administration, system development, process efficiencies, problem analysis, and problem resolution.

Must possess and demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.

Must be able to collaborate with various university constituents in both technical and non-technical terms to achieve optimal implementation results; research, analyze, and implement solutions to resolve issues. Strong customer-service orientation.

Highly self-motivated and directed. Keen attention to detail. Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.


Must be able to interpret internal and external customer technologies effectively, analyze complex problems, and respond effectively, providing constructive feedback and customer interaction for technical solutions that promote business process improvement and efficiency and resolve complex business problems.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, or Information Technology from an appropriately accredited institution or other related discipline; or related experience.

Minimum of three years of experience in applications programming using beginning to moderately complex database queries.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Function Information Technology
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Develop and automate necessary outbound and inbound data feeds from and to the ERP system and perform other programming tasks using intermediate database queries with the use of SQL, PL/SQL programming, vendor-supplied Application Program Interfaces (APIs), and other software technologies as required.

Successful completion of technical tasks related to the implementation, development, maintenance, enhancement, automation, and support of ERP systems, ancillaries, integrations, and interface solutions that support the strategic direction of the university, with an emphasis on business process improvement and efficiencies.
Function Information Technology
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Serve as a technical resource and support for other members of the Enterprise Applications and Development Services department, the Information Technology Services division, and campus constituents. Conduct research and troubleshooting to help resolve technical issues submitted through the helpdesk system.
Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Ensure appropriate testing performed and validated in collaboration with technical and functional staff prior to implementing new and/or enhanced technology solutions in production. Collaborate and communicate with users, ITS staff and vendors to resolve any new and existing application systems issues. Serve as a contributing member of a team requiring technical expertise and guidance for administrative technical solutions.
