Reporting to the Vice President for Student Life, the Executive Director for Campus Recreation and Club Sports is

responsible for leading, administering, and evaluating a comprehensive recreation and Club Sports program as part of the

division of Student Life. The Executive Director is responsible for the oversight of the Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center, a

60,000 square foot facility built in 2015. The Executive Director provides leadership and direction to the units involving

revenue generation, budget expenditures, facility maintenance, event management, services, programs, club sport

operations, recruitment, enrollment, and retention. The Executive Director serves on the divisional leadership team to

provide administrative and critical decision making for the Division of Student Life. The Executive Director partners with the

Office of Strategic Advancement and Partnerships, Offices of Admissions & Financial Aid, as well as the Department of

Athletics to ensure philanthropic support and commitment to excellence for recreation and club sports.

The Division of Student Life intersects at multiple points of a student's journey at Saint Mary's. With areas that promote

students' living experiences, wellness, and engagement, Student Life accompanies students on their academic and co-

curricular journey at Saint Mary's. The Division of Student Life creates a sense of belonging, offers participatory

opportunities, and encourages students to contribute back their talents. Departments within Student Life include Campus

Assault, Response, and Education (CARE), Campus Housing, Club Sports, Community Life, Center for Women & Gender

Equity, Counseling and Psychological Services, the Dean of Students, Intercultural Center, New Student & Family Programs,

Public Safety & Transportation, Residential Experience, Recreational Sports, Student Involvement and Leadership, and the

Student Health Center.

Leadership & Administrative Management

Develop and implement a strategic vision of recreation and club sports. Manages and

leads Campus Recreation & Club Sports professional staff. Effective leadership and

management skills to lead a team's successful development and implementation of

programs, services and events with clear priorities that are in direct line with the

strategic priorities, mission and vision for the Division of Student Life and Saint Mary's

College. Responsible for effective assessment and evaluation of programs and services

provided to the SMC Community and extended reach. Key partner in the planning,

strategizing and implementing college wide initiatives and programs.

Fiscal Responsibility

Provide leadership and direction to ensure department expenses are managed according

to the goals and objectives set forth by the college or Vice President of Student Life.

Maintain continued revenue expectations and explore new opportunities. Make

appropriate forecasts of revenue and expense lines that have an impactful outcome to

the department and/or college.

Administrative Responsibilities

Oversight responsibility in department mission and vision that promotes student

participation, wellness and an enhanced experience. Supervise professional staff, and

provide oversight for facility operations, planning, game operations, marketing and

customer service. Coach employees to lead by example and maintain effective

relationships across campus. Includes administrative oversight of the Joseph L. Alioto

Recreation Center & Pool, Pat Vincent Field, Recreational Field and Stadium.

External Relations

Ensure effective promotional strategies to propel the department, division and college

into sustainable programs and services. This includes strategic planning, oversight of

marketing efforts and external relations for Campus Recreation, Club Sports and Youth

Camps. Direct & supervise the process of identifying and analyzing assessments of

effective outreach, programs and services. Provide oversight for staff to sustain the

college mission and vision while maintaining a financially responsible youth camp

program.

Fundraising & Philanthropy

Provide oversight in developing and maintaining fundraising and philanthropic efforts

specific to Recreation and Club Sports at Saint Mary's College. Assist the Division of

Student Life and the Office of Strategic Advancement & Partnerships in implementing

fundraising plans, strategic priorities and donor relations. Manage endowment funding

in collaboration with campus partners and contributors. Supervise the directors in the

complex strategies for outreach, planning, and communication including events,

sponsorships and donor relations.

Special Events & Projects

Develop and lead special events and/or projects that align with the objectives of the

department, division and college. This includes planning, executing and evaluating with

key performance indicators and monitors progress. Proven experience strong strategic

thinking and problem solving with exceptional organization and time management skills.

Recruitment, Enrollment & Retention

Ensure effective strategies for enrollment, recruitment and participation for Club Sports

and provide oversight to the directors to identify and pursue athletes to apply and

attend Saint Mary's College. Partner with Admissions and Financial Aid for strategic plans

and implementation. Provide oversight of recreation and wellness related programs and

services to sustain the continued enrollment and retention of SMC Students.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: REQUIRED: BS in Sports Management, Recreation Management or the equivalent in job

experience

PREFERRED: MASTER'S

Experience: (years required and applicable field of experience): 8-10 years experience managing others,

programs and/or services. Preferred experience in athletic and/or team management, fundraising and

recruitment.

Skills/Abilities: (e.g. computer skills, written & verbal skills, trades, laws, procedures, technical) Computer

skills. Proficiency with Google Suite. Written and verbal communication skills.

Licenses & Certifications (e.g. CPA, RN, etc.):

PREFERRED:CPR, First & AED

Other Requirements: (e.g. travel, weekend/evening work): Nights, weekends, and travel.
