Rider University invites applications for the position of Associate Vice President of Human Resources. This is a Human Resources generalist role with primary responsibility managing the University’s employee benefits and compensation programs. Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, this individual will serve as a strategic advisor to senior management by managing and supervising the University’s compensation and employee benefits programs, workers compensation and executive benefits for a $10MM fringe budget, while supporting labor relations activities.
Specifically, the individual will be responsible for:
- maintaining all government compliance of federal and state laws and preparing required documentation;
- providing insightful input and strategic participation in union contract negotiations and labor agreements administration;
- administering the salary administration program for the University’s non-bargaining employees; and
- conducting and developing programs to educate and orient employees on aspects of employee benefits.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required, advance degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience working with benefits vendors administering benefits programs, preferably in a higher ed or similar environment.
- Background managing compensation programs for both exempt and non-exempt employees.
- Ability to set priorities, work independently and set initiatives.
- Good oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Person should have an orientation for both global analysis of impact of benefits and compensation changes and ability to manage details.
- Satisfactory background and/or DMV checks required
Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience
- Relevant advance degree and/or HR (SHRM) certificate preferred.
- 7+ years of Human Resources generalist experience managing a broad range of Human Resources activities, including labor and employee relations, human resources information systems, oversight for organizational development and institutional Human Resources policies and strategies, and management of HR budgets / making strategic decisions involving resource allocation.
- Financial acumen; possessing a keen understanding of financial implications to HR-related programs and practices.
- Track record of aligning HR strategies (people, process, technology) to organizational strategic plans.
- 3+ years of the above experience in a unionized higher education environment, including a solid understanding of the benefits, opportunities and challenges associated with a work environment characterized by the presence of an academic tenure system and shared governance principles.
- Experience with collective bargaining agreements; both in their administration as well as with the collective bargaining process.
- Ability to integrate innovative HR technologies and best practices that enhance HR operations and supports broader University initiatives.
