Job Profile Summary

Under immediate supervision, this position performs a range of specialized duties of a paraprofessional nature relating to the acquisitions, cataloging, and processing of library materials and the maintenance of the library's online catalog. This position utilizes considerable responsibility in making independent decisions in the application of general concepts and rules to specific bibliographic needs.

  

Minimum Education:

  • Associates Degree. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Three to five years related library experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Weekly - 10%: Assists with preservation, maintenance, shifting, and disposal of physical library material. Provides minor book repairs. Withdraws weeded material from library databases and processes disposals according to college standards and procedures.
  • Daily - 20%: Performs copy cataloging and routine database maintenance tasks. Creates and edits bibliographic, item and holdings records. Monitors and ensures accuracy and consistency of information in library databases. Executes ongoing physical inventory of library materials. Identifies, orders, processes, and corrects inventory. Maintains related statistical records (number of patrons, classes, tours, and material ordered). Process and distributes all mail including library books, and videos.
  • Daily - 15%: Preserves and safeguards collection by maintaining security standards (locking cases, controlling patron access to collections) and special handling of fragile materials. Maintains department environment stability by compiling HVAC temperature and humidity data.
  • Daily - 20%: Provides oversight and guidance to student workers, volunteers, and Library Assistants. Searches standard print and online resources to verify bibliographic information and availability.
  • Weekly - 20%: Prepares purchase orders for library acquisitions and Bid Waivers. Processes vendor orders electronically in compliance with Procurement and acquisitions policies. Processes invoices for payment and inputs data into the Library Management System. Maintains claim system for non-receipt of materials. Tracks and reconciles differences between the Acquisitions and ERM Modules in the Library Management System and in the College accounting system.
  • Monthly - 5%: Assists in preparing budget summaries for monthly reviews and provides budget recommendations for College Annual Budget Prep. Tracks expenditures under blanket Purchase Orders.
  • Other - 5%: Participates in professional development opportunities offered by Broward College and other professional organizations. Serve and represents the library on committees, task forces, and workgroups.
  • Other - 5%: Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of the general principles and practices of library services and programs.
  • Knowledge of cataloging principles and practices, including MARC format.
  • Strong knowledge, understanding, and skills in area of responsibility; including an understanding of concepts and principles of related areas and functions.
  • Ability to manage own work to job and performance standards.
  • Ability to participate as an active team member.
  • Ability to lead a group of employees. Requires intermediate to advanced knowledge of computer systems, i.e., Microsoft Office Products as well as specialized computer systems.
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a diverse employee and student population.
