Responsibilities
The Hettinger Lab (Aging & Metabolism Research Program) researches mechanisms of skeletal muscle aging in order to help treat older adults suffering from immobility. We are firm believers that keeping our muscles healthy leads to healthy aging. We are driven by a passion for discovery and we value collaborative approaches to scientific inquiry, and we are seeking an exceptionally motivated Research Technician to join our team. The individual in this role will support cellular and molecular biology experiments, assist in laboratory management, and have the opportunity to contribute to prospective peer-reviewed publications from our group. Some responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing mouse colonies (updating strain database, setting up breeders, and genotyping by PCR).
- Euthanizing mice and dissecting muscle tissue and/or isolation of live muscle cells.
- Performing In vitro culture and treatment of muscle cells.
- Sectioning, immunostaining, and immunofluorescent imaging of muscle tissue and/or cells.
- Participating in lab and departmental meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in one of the biological sciences and/or equivalent years of relevant lab experience.- Willingness to handle laboratory mice.
