The Department of Chemistry at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 10-month, non-tenure-track Visiting Assistant Professor starting August 2024. The successful candidate will have a masters and or a doctorate in
Chemistry or a closely related field with qualifications and strong interest in teaching General Chemistry. We invite applicants who are committed to high-quality teaching, deep student engagement, and who have a strong commitment to teaching pedagogies which promote equity, inclusion, and diversity. We also encourage applications from candidates with a wide range of professional, including industry, and personal paths. Each candidate is invited to discuss their unique pathway in their application materials. Teaching responsibilities will include General Chemistry. There may also be an opportunity for the development of course modules in the applicant's area of expertise. About the Department of Chemistry

The Chemistry Department has 16 full-time faculty members, 12 of whom are tenure-track, and approximately 120 majors. We occupy a newly expanded and renovated Chemistry Building, which is part of TCNJ’s six-building STEM Complex, providing tremendous opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. The Chemistry Department offers state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities with extensive instrumentation (see: science.tcnj.edu/about/facilities-labs).

TCNJ’s Department of Chemistry offers the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry as its only degree with specializations in Biochemistry, Materials Chemistry, and Secondary Education. It ranks in the top 10% nationally in the number of American Chemical Society (ACS) certified degrees earned. Over 80% of our majors participate in one or more semesters of research with a Chemistry faculty member. Among all public colleges and universities, TCNJ ranks first in the nation for the percentage of its undergraduates who go on to earn Ph.D.'s in Chemistry. In the past five years, the department was awarded over $3 million in external grants and has produced more than 40 peer-reviewed papers or book chapters. TCNJ faculty and students are very active with the American Chemical Society and recently hosted the Middle Atlantic Regional Meeting (MARM) in 2022 with the Trenton Local Section.
