Job Description
Responsibilities*
Manages and oversees the endoscope and medical device processing for non-OR sites, units, clinics, diagnostic areas, etc., specifically via high-level disinfection (HLD).
Promotes an atmosphere of cooperation with all internal and external partners to assure timely processing, disinfection and distribution of endoscopes and other medical devices.
Responsible for ensuring that all high-level disinfection policies/procedures are current and practiced consistently.
Oversees and assures the selection of the appropriate processing method is used for each item processed.
Assures compliance with current regulations (Federal, State, and Local) and infection prevention standards concerning HLD processes.
Assures the environment of care is compliant with regulatory and policy standards.
Responsible for all subordinate human resource management, development, training, and orientation programs.
Ensures the work environment is conducive to a high level of productivity and safety.
Responsible for department wide communication.
Responsible for the development and monitoring of all process improvement and quality indicators and managing these indicators to a high-performance level.
Oversees and performs duties which promote the most effective and efficient use of resources.
Responsible for sound fiscal management of the unit including managing to or exceeding forecast targets.
Assures unit and supervisory staffing models are reviewed and adjusted accordingly.
Develops standard work practices. Reviews and monitors Patient Safety Reporting Forms and other quality reports to ensure safe practices are in place and being followed.
Oversees staff and leadership development.
Is responsible for the preparation and publishing of monthly statistical activity reports.
Prepares regular reports for Sterilization & Disinfection Committee and other committees as needed.
Oversees and ensures compliance and training for the Instrument Tracking System.
Ensures proper collection and storage of all associated records for bacteriologic testing, cycle monitoring, and preventative maintenance.
Assigns other tasks to staff members and performs other tasks as the need dictates.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in the Health Care related field, Administration, Business, Education, Sciences, or other related field.
3-5 yrs. surgical instrument and supply management experience.
Previous management experience and/or project management skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of high level disinfection practices.
Must possess a Central Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician, Certified Registered Central Service Technician Certification or must obtain one within-probationary period of the job.
Specific knowledge in the use, care and handling of endoscopes and related equipment.
Competent in the use of Word, Excel and UMHS computer software applications.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, critical thinking and customer service skills.
Desired Qualifications*
A Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor certification or equivalent certification.
Sterile Processing and Distribution Manager Certification or a Certified Healthcare Leader certification, and/or an agreement to attain this certification within one year of hire.
Two or more years of manager experience in Sterile Processing or High Level Disinfection with progressive improvements in staff utilization, workflow, budget management, lean training, administrative and teaching duties.
Operating Room/ MPU/Similar experience
