The Assistant Director, reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, provides leadership in the establishment of policies and procedures to deliver comprehensive career services. This is a pivotal role in supporting the career development and job placement of SFBU students and alumni. This position is responsible for providing individualized career advising, developing and facilitating employment training workshops, coordinating resources, and engaging with faculty to enhance career programming. Additionally, the Assistant Director will manage communication efforts, market career services, and build employer partnerships to expand job opportunities. They contribute to the continuous improvement of career services through data-driven decision-making and strategic partnerships.

Note: Exempt, full time position, located in Fremont, California. Candidates must reside in the local area or willing to locate.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000

Primary Responsibilities:

Placement (45%)

Responsible for student advising/ consultation to assist them in evaluating and realizing educational and career goals.
Provide students and alumni individual assistance in defining career options, developing employment skills, and job-search procedures.
Delivers programming for campus wide events, specialized programming to select groups of students, and Employment Training Workshops
Develop, coordinate, and facilitate training and skill development workshops to include resume preparation, job-search strategies, career information technology including Internet links, interview skills, and experiential learning preparation.

Communication/Programming (30%)

Resource Development
Coordinate resources in support of programming and independent student accessibility including Internet links, transparencies, electronic media, employer directories, employment vacancy bulletins, etc.
Provides content expertise for any career development and management materials, handouts, and other self-help guides for students.
Faculty Development
Coordinate college specific outreach, programming, and customized seminars/workshops/programs based on student needs assessment and faculty requests. Work with and advise faculty/college administrators on the methods to enhance the quality of experiential learning/career development and to expand departmental participation.
Researches and stays informed on hiring practices, employment trends and other labor related issues.
Statistical Data Collection/Dissemination
Conduct assessment and follow-up studies through electronic communications, direct mail, and telecommunications of all graduates to determine employment levels, position titles, starting salaries, and continuing professional development.
Assists in the collection of relevant data to support office trending analysis, reports and other metrics uses.

Marketing (25%)

Employer Development
Build partnerships between the university and external communities (business, the public sector, and not-for-profit entities) emphasizing aggressive development and marketing to expand experiential learning and full-time employment opportunities.
Participates in business and community events to help build the University brand.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree (emphasis in student affairs, counseling, human resource management, or related field).
One to two years of relevant experience in a career office setting.
Strong organizational program development and communication skills.
Extensive experience with presentations, workshops, educational, or training events..
Creative thinking/reasoning abilities.
Demonstrated competency to oversee multiple tasks with attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with a broad range of internal and external constituents including students, employers, alumni, faculty, and staff.
Assists the career team in other projects assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of both career management applications and Generative Artificial Intelligence.
Two to five years of relevant higher education experience.
