Job Summary
Advises transfer students regarding information, procedures and academic requirements to support their transition to Kennesaw State University. Provides academic guidance and program information to the transfer students in the assigned college or program. Assists transfer students in exploring careers, evaluating academic abilities and setting goals. Collaborates frequently with academic departments and campus partners to support the procedures and processes necessary for transfer students.

Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides comprehensive academic advising services to assigned transfer students
2. Prepares advising materials such as student information, advising guides and recruitment materials to support the knowledge and progression of new transfer students
3. Creates and implements events and initiatives to support the retention, progression, and graduation of transfer students
4. Collaborates and coordinates with other senior transfer specialists to initiate opportunities for transfer student community-building.
5. Serves as an intermediary between transfer students, KSU Registrar's Office, departments, and when necessary, relevant partners at other institutions
6. Represents the assigned college on appropriate campus committees
7. Responsible for accurate and reliable application of transfer credits to a student's degree plan utilizing departmental relationships and transfer course substitution processes
8. Provides high-quality academic advising services to currently assigned populations of KSU students. Services include developing multi-semester degree planning, aligning students' academic interests and aptitudes with appropriate professional goals, connecting students learning assessment, program admission requirements, appropriate course substitutions
9. Leads advising opportunities for new and incoming students, both at orientation and in pre-orientation advising sessions
10. Develops reports and analytics related to transfer student advising activity and student success metrics to assist in the tracking of transfer students
11. Assists with the coordination of unit-level communication plans regarding key milestones, registration deadlines, academic resources, etc.
12. Prepares references, resources, and guidance to academic advisors targeted for the transfer student population
13. Provides second level oversight of retention, progression, and graduation of students within assigned populations, and offers proactive outreach and communication for students who may benefit from timely advising interventions

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Required Experience
Four (4) years of experience as an academic advisor

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Preferred Experience
Demonstrated proficiency in academic advising as evidenced by the peer, supervisor, and student evaluations, as well as student success systems and tools

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Able to gather information from the originating institution or KSU department to assist the proper completion of a valid and purposeful academic plan.
Able to maintain membership in advising national organizations (NACADA, NAAHP, etc.)
Able to access and maintain confidential student information
Able to interact effectively with students
Able to work evenings and weekends to support College initiatives, events and /or activities
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one-time meeting assigned deadlines
Participates in ongoing professional development activities that enhance academic advising outcomes

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
