Position Summary
The Division of Humanities, Social Sciences, Media & Arts (HSSMA) invites applications for a full-time, visiting assistant professor in the Department of English. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in English, specializing in rhetoric and composition with the ability to instruct in-person and in online environments. The candidate is also expected to maintain an appropriate level of scholarly activity/ research and service for Visiting Professor status.

This Visiting faculty member will have primary responsibility for teaching freshman composition (English 101 and 102) and will occasionally teach upper-level courses in history of the English Language, advanced composition, and advanced grammar/editing for the English major as the need arises. In all courses, the faculty member will be asked to provide classroom instruction that incorporates concern for issues of social and racial justice.

The English Department is a collegial department that offers a broad range of courses for the major and the minor, including three concentrations: Africana Literature and Cultural Studies, Traditional English Studies, and Writing. Applicants should have experience teaching English to a diverse group of students including non-majors.

This appointment is for one academic year. The start date is August 1, 2024. An official transcript will be required of the selected candidate.
Required Qualifications
The minimum qualification for the position is a PhD in English.
Advanced Ph.D. candidates will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
A terminal degree in English or related field with at least 20 credit hours in the major.
Preferred Education/Experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Terminal degree in English or a related field with 20 hours in the major.
2 years teaching experience.
Evidence of productive scholarship.
Experience teaching within an online learning management system. Knowledge of pedagogical strategies and methods of student assessment.
Computer literacy and instructional technology skills required.

Compensation
Salary will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, and internal equity.
Teaching Responsibility
Teaching load is 7 courses per year (or 21 credit hours). Specific course assignments and scheduling for each faculty member is determined in consultation with the Department Chair and Division Dean.

The successful candidate will be expected to support the College’s general education curriculum.
