Job Description

The University of Colorado Boulder is encouraging applicants for the Professional Tutor - Mathematics position! As a member of the CU Boulder Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, (VMA), the Professional Tutor will engage in direct tutoring of student veterans, veteran dependents, and active duty service members using GI Bill Educational Benefits at CU Boulder, as well as preparing of math-success resources, coordinating student study groups, and participating in initiatives within the VMA office designed to enhance student performance and retention. The Professional Tutor is expected to develop campus connections and relationships that support the familiarity of the tutor with campus math courses and technology, as well as aiding in making appropriate referrals to student success resources. This position will work closely with the VMA Academic Integration Program Manager, and the VMA Professional Tutor in physics to develop a team-based approach to student veteran, veteran dependent, and active duty students using GI Bill Educational Benefits for academic success.

Tutoring and supporting Student Case Management
Tutor student veterans, student veteran dependents, and active duty military CU Boulder students using GI Bill educational benefits in Math, in topic areas ranging from liberal arts math to calculus, including statistics.
Conduct informal intake and diagnosis of math preparation.
Meet with students individually and in small groups for content area tutoring and study skills development.
Facilitate the development of student study groups among the student veteran, veteran dependent, and active duty students using GI Bill Educational Benefits.
Offer group review sessions before exams.
Maintain familiarity with university math placement processes and procedures, and assist students with appropriate course placement.
Assist the VMA Academic Integration Program Manager with tracking students who are likely to experience difficulties in math, and proactively encourage student meetings with tutoring and advising as appropriate.
Programming
Develop math content area and study skills tutorial resources and apply as appropriate to support student learning.
Develop and maintain contacts with math instructors, applied math, and other applicable departments.
Maintain working knowledge of technology used in math course programming at CU Boulder.
Collaborate with VMA staff on student success and retention initiatives.
Engage in continuous training on campus policies, resources, and support structures.
Create and edit student success resources.
Administrative and Other
Maintain accurate records of student contacts and course outcomes.
Assist in the development of student case management and referral tools for utilization by VMA staff.
Participate in periodic VMA student academic success team meetings, VMA staff meetings, and student affairs staff meetings.
Engage in professional development and training opportunities as directed by the VMA Academic Program Manager.

The salary range for this position is $42,000 to $46,000 annually.
