Job Summary

A research assistant position which will train and perform various duties within a laboratory setting. This new hire will perform a variety of molecular biology and microscopic techniques to support research being undertaken by an Assistant Professor. They will also be required to work with laboratory animals (mice). Working with other members of the laboratory to prepare research publications and presentations is essential.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

EXPERIMENTS: Perform molecular and cellular biology procedures including: PCR, plasmid preparation, cloning, western blot, immunofluorescence, and fluorescence microscopy. Maintain mammalian cells in culture including relevant techniques such as transfection and viral production.

MICE: Support management of a mouse colony by setting up breeding cages, weening, and genotyping pups, and taking inventory.

GENERAL LAB DUTIES: Inventories and orders research supplies; stocks necessary supplies in tissue culture and microscopy rooms; cleans and autoclaves materials as needed.

OTHER DUTIES: Attends regular lab meetings and meetings with PI, formats data and applies basic statistical analysis. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science, or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

OR

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Preferred Qualifications

1+ year experience in a research laboratory; experience working with mice and/or fluorescent microscopy

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to use sound judgement and work independently

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases

Shift/Salary/Benefits

* This position is 100% grant funded

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday

Pay Band: B5

Salary: $17.88 - $18.49

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
