Job Description

The primary responsibility of a Rider Coach is to ensure a safe and positive learning environment. A class is typically taught by 2 Rider coaches with a total of 12 students. Throughout the class 1½hours are spent in a classroom setting, 10½hours are spent outdoors conducting on-cycle training while 3 hours are spent outdoors setting up and or closing range activities.On-cycle instruction areas (hereafter called ranges) are located within walking distance of the classrooms.

Duties to include:

  • Arrive one hour before the on-cycle instruction begins and stay one half hour after on-cycle instruction ends to perform a TCLOCS on the motorcycles, gas motorcycles, set up the range and secure range materials after range activities end.

  • Conduct the Basic Rider Course 1 and other Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s courses including current CSN course offerings Introduction to Motorcycle Operation, Skills Practice, Basic Rider Course 2 (BRC2), Advanced Rider Course and/or other course offerings which may be added to the CSN motorcycle program in the future in accordance with the (MSF) curriculum and professional standards, Nevada Rider’s and College of Southern Nevada’s (CSN) policies and procedures.

  • Inspect and correct or communicate issues found in CSN’s program motorcycles including but not limited to: inflating tires to proper levels, add oil if needed, replace broken or bent levers, or communicate issues found to the Motorcycle Safety Specialist.

  • Inspect student provided documents for accuracy and completeness, complete CSN and Nevada Rider required reports and submit within the time limits specified by Nevada Rider’s and College of Southern Nevada’s (CSN) policies and procedures.

  • Take part in regularly scheduled instructional meetings, professional development workshops, range painting activities motorcycle maintenance activities and conduct themselves according to MSF’s, Nevada Rider’s and CSN’s professional standards.

  • Conduct written and riding skills evaluation on the students. Scoring the skills evaluation requires the instructors be able to evaluate each of the skills accurately and correctly, record the scores and add the totals accurately.

The idea candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to tailor the course facilitation to assist students who may have language, reading, comprehension, and/or hearing issues.

  • Ability to conduct classes at all CSN ranges.

  • Ability to read instructions verbatim to students.

  • Ability to read schematic drawings of range exercises and use the drawings to apply paint or chalk for all exercises and evaluations required by the classes or activities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Conducting the on-cycle portion of the course includes riding motorcycles, checking fuel levels, and filling gas tanks with gas cans weighing up to 40 lbs. Kneeling to check tire pressures, change spark plugs, setting up cones throughout the range, and bending to pick them up, providing hand signals above shoulder height, pushing a broom to clear debris off the range.

  • Ability to push, pull, motorcycles out of storage containers, and short distances on the range. Upright motorcycles off of students or from the ground.

  • Ability to stand, walk, (up to 5 miles per day), twist, and turn (waist and neck) frequently.

  • Carry, lift, and hold up to 50 pounds from ground level to 42 inches in height and hold the same for at least 5 minutes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and licensed by the state of Nevada to conduct classes in Nevada.

  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions including direct sun, wind, rain, and extreme temperatures hot and cold.

  • Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching or public speaking.

Salary Range:

$17.50 - $27.00 depending on experience

Schedule: At least 15 hours a month (1 class) and a maximum of 60 hours or 4 classes a month
