Job Description

First Year Experience (FYE) Peer Leaders support the efforts of all First Year Experience & Student Success Initiatives beginning with FYE Registration/Enrollment events and the FYE Peer Mentoring Program at CSN.

Serving as a campus resource, these trained student workers are knowledgeable about the CSN college experience, assist new students in their transition to CSN, and provide continuous engagement and connections with students throughout the first year. They are trained experts in the first-year student journey at CSN, having a broad understanding of the variables that may positively or negatively affect a first-year student’s experience. FYE Peer Leaders represent the diversity of the CSN community in experience, interests and ideas. FYE Peer Leaders aid in the student development of personal, social, and academic skills for success, and they report to the Coordinator of Orientation and Director of First Year Experience. Our services benefit CSN students and staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Welcome new students and families to CSN

  • Assist withFirst Year Experience programming, orientation, registration events, and peer mentoring

  • Serve as a mentor to students new to CSN as assigned

  • Assist new students in navigating CSN and its resources

  • Participate and lead large and small group discussions atFirst Year Experience Events

  • Support Students First Stations throughout the academic year to assist new students with completing CSN applications, scheduling appointments for academic advising, providing resource awareness, and assisting enrollment efforts

  • Prepare event materials

  • Professionally serve the CSN Community by working with diverse student and family populations to welcome all guests and provide them with an effective transition into CSN

  • Support other welcoming initiatives such as Welcome Back days, CSN Connections, and other events as assigned

  • Attend all FYE Peer Leadership trainings

  • May assist with student outreach activities for various departmental initiatives

  • Interact with CSN students on First Year Experience Department’s social media pages

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude and public presentation skills

  • Completion of at least one semester (minimum) at CSN

  • Currently enrolled at CSN student in a Degree/Certificate program forthe 2024–2025 Academic year

  • Must have good communication skills and ability to engage with students, parents, families, and CSN staff

  • At application must be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3 or greater; to remain an orientation leader must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

  • Free from major time commitments during summer (May through August)

  • Concern for others and ability to interact well as a member of a team

Starting Pay: $14.00

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 am- 5:00 pm up to 19.5 a week
