Job Description
Join the forefront of groundbreaking research at City of Hope where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. Our dedicated and compassionate faculty and staff are driven by a common mission: Contribute to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases, shaping the future of medicine through cutting-edge research.
The Nath lab is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in computational cancer biology. Our lab aims to enhance cancer treatment outcomes through two main research areas:
Investigating the biological mechanisms underlying tumor progression: We use single-cell and bulk multiomic techniques to profile tumor samples, focusing on resistance mechanisms in breast cancer, glioblastomas, colon cancer, and lung cancer.
Advancing precision oncology through machine-learning models: We integrate multimodal patient data, including multiomic data and health record information, to develop predictive models for drug response. Furthermore, we work on creating new treatment stratification methods to personalize treatment for individual patients.
More information about the lab can be found here: https://www.nathlab.org
As a successful candidate, you will:
Collaborate closely with experimental scientists, mathematicians, and medical oncologists/surgeons to plan, design, and execute computational analyses.
Design, maintain, and optimize computational pipelines and software tools for integration of multi‑omics and clinical datasets to uncover mechanisms of tumor evolution and therapeutic resistance.
Developingand applying state‑of‑the‑art artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) algorithms to discover robust prognostic and predictive biomarkers, and design clinically actionable treatment‑stratification frameworks.
Stay updated on the latest advancements in bioinformatics, genomics, and AI/ML research, and present findings to internal teams and external collaborators, as well as at conferences.
Work with the PI to develop a career development plan and participate in various career‑growth opportunities.
Your qualifications should include:
Ph.D. in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, or a closely related quantitative field. A degree in computer science is especially valuable due to the software engineering, algorithmic, and AI/ML components central to this role.
Strong fundamentals in cancer biology and statistics are essential.
Demonstrated proficiency in multiple programming languagessuch as Python/R, with experience in computational analysis of omics datasets.
Experience with AI/ML algorithms and prediction model development.
Familiarity with data structures, algorithms, software engineering best practices, and computational efficiency is highly desirable.
Additional Information:
Applicants are required to submit a CV accompanied by a cover letter outlining how their career objectives align with the research conducted in our lab. Please indicate the expected graduation date if applicable.
The candidate's CV should include a detailed list of preprints/publications, along with the names and contact information of three potential referees.
