Job Summary

The UHS Health Data Analyst will join a dynamic and collaborative team of data analysts, clinicians, epidemiologists, IT business solutions, and revenue cycle professionals. The analyst mines, analyzes, interprets, presents and visualizes clinical, public health, financial and operational data from a variety of data sources in order to improve the healthcare quality, safety and sustainability of the university. This position collaborates across campus with clinical, analytic, IT and public health staff in order to improve access, workflows, and outcomes of care and public health interventions.


Responsibilities*
The primary duties are data mining, coding, analysis, visualization, reporting and communication using the electronic medical record and various health databases and data warehouses as data sources.

Data Management (60%)

Track/log cases of infectious diseases such as COVID, flu, STIs, gastrointestinal illness, chickenpox, measles, mumps, pertussis, shingles, viral hepatitis, lyme disease; tracking tests (positive and negative results)
Pull data from MiChart/HSDW. Clean and verify data to reflect appropriate format; ensure data effectively flows into the Tableau dashboard; integrate feedback/other requested components as requested
Compile monthly data from different pre-existing sources and run MiChart/HSDW reports to obtain other data points for billing compliance; ensure data effectively flows into the Tableau dashboard; integrate feedback and requested adjustments as necessary following meetings where dashboard is shown in order to allow leadership to make informed decisions
Respond to data inquiries from clinical and administrative managers
Monitor timely and accurate receipt and transfer of data
Ensure workflow integrity by securely connecting to an API (or similar process) to download test results; process, sort, and merge on a unique identifier to a registration list that includes demographic information
Identify and analyze trends in data sets by processing, merging, grouping, and creating of summary statistics (Excel, SAS, R, and other data management programs)
Reconcile multiple and sometimes conflicting data sources; periodically review disease dashboards and reports by matching data sources (R, SAS, SPSS, etc); manually review charts resolve data concerns and ensure accurate information and data integrity
Perform basic statistical analysis
Design and develop data visualization solutions to communicate results to key decision makers by determining the source of data, formatting data to meet visualization needs (Tableau, website; etc.)
Other duties as assigned
Reporting and Communication (30%)

Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders (e.g., reportable diseases, annual reports, clinical operations, billing optimization, quality and safety, patient satisfaction)
Create and run data reports from the electronic medical record (MiChart/Epic) and other sources (e.g., Michigan Disease Surveillance System, health data warehouses)
Partnership and Collaboration (10%)

Collaborate with UHS managers and public health professionals to define and create appropriate key performance indicators
Adopt and modify (if needed) existing data and analytic programs and workflows
Liaise with partners in Environment, Health & Safety, School of Public Health, Michigan Medicine, local health departments, the Registrar, and Student Life, etc.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in a related field
2 years of experience in a healthcare or public health setting where a significant component of the work was data analysis and interpretation, including working with large data sets, communicating data findings, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team
Additional Information
Work schedule

Shift/Hours: 40 hours per week, generally 8am-5pm.
Must be flexible and able to adapt to change in a fast-moving work environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule with variable hours, potential to work some weekends.
Potential opportunity to work remotely 1-2 days per week (based on operational needs).
