Job Description

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Mathematics Learning Specialist delivers direct academic support services with a strong emphasis on mathematics to students in various colleges and departments at The UT Health Science Center. This includes the coordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of these services. This position encompasses academic coaching and instruction on math-specific learning strategies to help students succeed in their courses and adjust to the rigorous demands of the health science environment.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides math-specific academic coaching and programming with students individually or in a group setting.
Utilizes technology to provide math support services in person, online, and/or over the phone.
Creates individualized math learning strategy enhancement plans for each assigned student, monitors progress, and maintains records of all individual contacts.
Identifies the math support needs of colleges and programs in collaboration with faculty, administration, staff, and students.
Develops math learning resource materials and activities specific to the needs of students across all colleges.
Provides remedial individual and group math instruction tailored to student needs.
Coordinates the administration and scoring of math assessments under the direction of the associate director.
Assists in the development and implementation of small group workshops on specific math learning strategies.
Creates and provides quality materials related to math preparation for board or licensure exams.
Utilizes software to track, schedule, and analyze student usage data and appointments accurately.
Organizes and implements effective outreach and awareness initiatives for Academic Success services and support within UTHSC faculty, staff, and student groups.
Performs other related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in an academic setting. Experience in the areas of learning and studying styles, tutorial services, academic counseling, and/or retention programs. (Experience teaching math at the secondary or college level preferred.)

Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
Proficiency in using technology for educational purposes, including online learning platforms and data management systems.
