Position Description
The DRSC/TRiP-Functional Genomics Resources combines wet-bench research, automation, and bioinformatics to carry out large-scale state-of-the-art functional genomics and other biological research studies. We are seeking an exceptional bioinformatics scientist to join the Bioinformatics team. We are seeking a candidate who will focus on analysing large-scale datasets and provide computational support to a dynamic research team. You will work collaboratively with a small team of biologists and programmers in a fast-paced environment.

Daily activates include meeting with bench scientists about the need and plan of data analysis, working on raw data processing as well as downstream biological analysis, giving presentation to informatics team and/or at lab meeting about working progress, writing manuscripts et al.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Develop analysis pipeline of large-scale datasets such as single-cell RNASeq data
  • Collaborates and consults with biologists to analyze problems, recommends technology-based solutions, and designs computational strategies for a project
  • Design, develop and maintain bioinformatics tools and resources for public use
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Master's or doctoral degree in Bioinformatics/Biology or related experience preferred
  • Proficiency with statistics, data modeling and algorithms
  • Significant experience with R programming, and familiarity with one of other coding languages (e.g. Python, Perl)
  • Experience working in a Unix/Linux development environment
  • Strong background in life science research and can communicate with bench scientists. research experience working with model organisms is a plus
  • Experience of analyzing large-scale omics datasets
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and work cooperatively
Additional Information
This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
