Director of the Flemming Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Hampden-Sydney College, a liberal arts college in Hampden-Sydney, Virginia, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its next director of the Flemming Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. This is an on-site leadership role, anticipated to start in late summer 2024.

The director of the Flemming Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (FCEI) plays an integral role in supporting the distinct mission of Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC). H-SC is the tenth oldest institution of higher learning in the United States (founded in 1775) and is the oldest of the country's few remaining private colleges specializing in educating and developing young men. Reporting to the dean of the faculty, the director supports the mission of the college by designing, implementing, and overseeing the day-to-day operation of the FCEI and developing and implementing the center's vision for the future. In collaboration and partnership with affiliated faculty, staff, and external partners, the director will work to integrate entrepreneurship and innovation across the college. The director is responsible for planning and implementing all of the center's initiatives, including workshops, competitions, interdisciplinary curriculum development, outreach, and programs. The director encourages and supports student entrepreneurship through advising, mentoring, and providing resources. The director provides financial oversight for the center and develops and implements strategic plans to advance the college's goals in entrepreneurship and innovation.

Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree and significant experience in entrepreneurship, innovation, business development, or a related field is required. An advanced degree that qualifies the candidate to teach, teaching experience, and experience in higher education or a similar educational environment are preferred. In addition, experience developing and managing programs, documented experience building relationships with entrepreneurs, industry leaders, alumni, and other stakeholders on behalf of students; knowledge of strategic planning, fiscal management, and assessment; and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are all required qualifications. To be successful in this dynamic work environment, candidates should be creative, organized, capable of handling details effectively, and possess strong interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills.
