Position Overview:
UMBC's Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a Research Assistant to assist with investigating the molecular genetics of cell migration and to manage laboratory reagents.

Responsibilities:
The Research Assistant will promote the mission of the department by augmenting high-quality research through their own work directly, as well as by supporting laboratory groups and thereby improving productivity.

Primary duties include:

Maintaining fly stocks
Performing routine genetic experiments
Maintaining laboratory organization and ordering supplies
Overseeing undergraduate workers
Performing microdissection of flies
Carrying out fluorescent immuno-stainings and microscopy
Employing basic molecular biology techniques
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree preferably in a Biological or Chemical Science
Note: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Biology or a related field
Prior experience working with Drosophila in a lab setting
